Is Clinton Supporter Altman at the Enquirer Smearing Clinton?

Yes it's true. Only one and a half months ago, The National Enquirer published a story entitled "Clinton Mistress Revealed," that gave the name and photograph of Bill Clinton's most recent illicit lover:

With Obama having sewn up the Democratic Presidential Nomination, this was obviously an attempt to sabotage Hillary Clinton's chances for the Vice-Presidential nomination. After all, revelations of Bill Clinton continuing to cavort with mistresses would make anyone weary of bringing the Clintons back into the White House.

Now, was this a secret campaign to bring down Obama, by removing one Vice Presidential candidate that could help him get elected President? Or was it really a secret attack on John Edwards, by first clearing the field and then setting up Edwards for a subsequent attack?

What's going on here? Enquiring minds want to know!!

I'm surprised the conspiracy theorists also didn't try to pin Reed's Shermanesque pronouncement that he will not take the VP position if offered on Hillary. I think plenty of people in this party need some medication for both HDS (Hillary derangment syndrome) and ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome).

Good one. This is an excellent response to the other diary.

The sad thing about all of this is that there are people ready to believe the worst about Obama and both of the Clintons. Look at how quickly the accusations came out about the Obama campaign planning on having the prayer he left at the wailing wall published.

I agree with Blazers Edge. Too many people in this party have either HDS or ODS. We know lots of Repugs have HDS. It's sad to see the same and the ODS in our own party.

I was watching "Kudlow and Company" on CNBC earlier this week...I generally find the discussions provocative and fairly stimulating. It leans right, but Robert Reich and Jarred Bernstien are also frequent contributors.

Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC commentator (and actor of "Big Love" fame on HBO) was paired opposite Steve Moore of the Wall St. Journal, to discuss the National Enquirer Story--namely, that Edwards has a mistress and love child out in LA.

Without batting an eye, O'Donnell stated that he had read the Enquirer story, and that it appeared to be "very solid reporting".

I was initially shocked, but my take now is that O'Donnell--an outspoken Obama supporter from the beginning--wanted to knock Edwards out of consideration for VP/AG immediately, and to make this story go away. Smart move, since the longer these things linger, the worse they stink.

Are you kidding. Kudlow is an extreme Republican shill. His shtick is get groups of right wing pundits who all agree with him and a token dissenter like Barry Ritholz or Herb Greenberg(who on their blogs have admitted it's something of a joke but they need the exposure). What follows is a endless diet of stock market happy talk and Repblican propaganda and if Ritholz or Greenberg attempts to bring a little reality to the conversation Kudlow shouts him down. That anyone would find this bizarre charade "provocative and fairly stimulating" is an interesting commentary on their outlook.

were on the program the other day, explaining their views on lifting the ban on offshore drilling. And yes--opposite Mitch McConnell--it made for a fairly provocative show.

No need here to list all the progressives who have appeared on the show, but the point is pretty clear: if you just surround yourself with viewpoints/pundits you agree with, you'll never learn anything.
